How much damage did Guam have?
Forming on May 19, 2023 and ending on June 3, 2023, it is estimated that the negative effects Mawar would have on Guam would last for about 2 years. That includes housing, and nature, but in terms of money, tourism might be the most affected part of Guam by typhoon Mawar. With the lockdowns that happen during natural disasters, many tourists have been trapped on the island. At the time of the typhoon, there were 6000 tourists, of which 3200 people were korean. And many have canceled a trip to Guam due to the typhoon. The economic loss just with tourism is close to 100M$.
How Will Guam Recover?
Although recovery in Guam has been significant, still or a thousand homes and tourist sites that are broken and abandoned. Although it might take only a bit over a year to recover from the broken homes, the recovery from the economic loss will take a while to rebuild and start tourism again and gain the money back. With more support from other countries, it might not take a while, but this just goes to show how much Guam depends on tourism and how important it is for them.
Precautions Guam Should Make
Precautions in typhoons might be to tape your window, keep at least 3 days worth of water. But other then helping people, I think for a place like Guam that has a lot of Typhoons, they should maybe build things that can protect sites and homes, such as walls, strong walls, emergency bunkers for people, and an alternative energy source.
